Ed Mertz has been involved with photography and art most of his life. His creative interest began with medium-format black & white photos during his high school and college years. The traditional wet-darkroom techniques provided a solid foundation for his current work of capturing images digitally and balancing them in the digital-darkroom. Portraiture, weddings, landscapes, and celebrity shots have comprised the body of his work for several decades. Photographing the American West -- its buildings, culture, plants and wildlife is his most recent passion.
Recognition of his photography includes several awards at the Arizona State Fair, the Seney Wildlife Refuge and BetterPhoto.com. His image of a Harris' Hawk in flight won first place in a state-wide competition and has been published in the 2007 Arizona Game & Fish Wildlife Calendar.
An exhibit of his work was held at the Mayo Clinic Scottsdale in early 2008 and a second exhibit installed at the Mayo Hospital in Phoenix ran through March, 2009. This later exhibit included selections from his "Wild Animals of the American West" series. See Photos
