Several of Ed's bird and flower pictures are included in Dr. Gerald A. Rosenthal's book, Sonoran Desert Life. Dr. Rosenthal is a world-renowned biologist and biochemical entomologist and his practical yet comprehensive book expertly explains the flora and fauna of the Sonoran Desert.
This book was prepared to document the Mayo Clinic exhibit of thirteen of Ed's bird and plant photographs. It also contains written comments and reactions by many of the people who viewed the exhibit during the January 14th through April 14th, 2008 period.
During the 1955 through 1960 time period, I was a student at the University of Notre Dame, in South Bend, Indiana. My major was Chemical Engineering but I was interested in photography. Soon after arriving on campus, I signed up to be a photographer for the Scholastic, the weekly magazine, and the Dome, the University's yearbook. Assignments for these publications allowed me to photograph a number of famous and well known people who visited and led the University. This book reveals some of those photographs and the story behind them.
